Here are the top healthy commercially produced snacks we have found that are fantastic replacements for far less healthier snacks. Most of these are available at Whole Foods, independent health food stores, and high-end supermarkets, such as Wegmans. If your local provider doesn’t carry these brands, ask them to — or you can find out more how to order each of the websites below:
1. A MUCH Safer Microwave Popcorn
I have placed this at the top of the list, because there are still parents
who aren’t aware of how toxic the chemicals in common microwave products
can be. Please see The Cancer Risk of Microwave Popcorn, and this CDC.gov article, about the dangers of butter flavorings (such as the chemical Diacetyl) and how they are toxic to lungs.
Great news, though: There is a microwave popcorn that doesn’t contain any of the above chemicals: Quinn Popcorn and comes in some tasty flavors.
2. Corn Chips Done Right
Most of the corn chips you see in the supermarkets has Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) corn in it (unless they say “non-GMO”on the package). However, this brand,
Way Better Snacks, is non-GMO, and has organic, sprouted whole grains, seeds, quinoa,
sunflower oil, and other healthy, wholesome ingredients. And as a bonus: they taste great (I buy them all the time).
3. Avoid Dead Bread, Choose Live Sprouted Bread, Instead!
Commercially available bread, crackers, and other grain-based foodstuffs that fill the shelves of supermarkets and served in eating establishments, are downright unhealthy. They’re chock-full of non-food ingredients, (such as azodicarbonamide — the exact same chemical in shoe rubber and yoga mats), and many other ingredients that just shouldn’t be there (including GMOs, and treatment by chemical bleach). Also,much of the flour’s nutrients are eliminated by industrial processing.
A real bread that I’ve eaten and enjoyed for years is Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Grain Bread – it has NO flour in it, but is made of it’s made sprouted grains (up to six of them)! This combination of sprouted grains makes up a complete protein (all nine essential amino acids). Among the varieties of Ezekial Bread, kids will love the “Cinnamon Raisin” as a toast, especially with some organic butter and a little raw honey, or fruit jam, spread on
it. It also makes a great natural peanut butter sandwich. Please note that they offer a gluten-free bread as well.
4. Crunchy, Chewy and Allergy-Free
Here’s a great snack for kids with dairy, gluten or tree nut allergies/issues:

They are free of gluten, tree nuts, lactose, soy and casein. You should know ahead of time that because of an occasional chlorophyll reaction in the sun flower seeds, the inside of the bar may look somewhat green. If so, there is no reason for concern, as it is harmless (see the FAQ section at their website).
5. These Chips are Stacked in Your Favor (and Flavor)…
Most kids love crunchy salty snacks, such as potato chips. But health-conscious parents know that such snacks are usually less than healthy, as they use highly heated, often unhealthy oils. Not so with PopChips. They use a unique “popping” process, that does not involve oil. Nor do they have preservatives in them — which is great — but if you have any leftover chips, make sure to seal bag tightly.
